STEVE SMITH
President and Chief Operating Officer
Bio
Steve Smith is the President and Chief Operating Officer of CGS, a Medicare Administrative Contractor company. CGS has over 60 years of experience providing exceptional administrative healthcare services for Medicare beneficiaries, healthcare providers, and medical equipment suppliers.
Steve joined CGS as its president in 2011 and has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, focused significantly on Medicare program administration. Prior to CGS, Steve held various leadership positions in operational support areas for BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and subsidiary companies, such as Palmetto GBA in the Government Programs Division.
Steve has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He has been a board member and chair of two non-profit organizations, Youth Corps in Columbia, South Carolina, and March of Dimes in Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to his career in the insurance industry, Steve served as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps.

CATHY CARNEY
Vice President,
Compliance & Privacy Officer
Bio
Cathy Carney is the Vice President of Compliance and Privacy responsible for overseeing and monitoring CGS’ compliance program and HIPAA privacy initiatives. She is actively involved in developing and maintaining policies, advising senior leadership on risks, and documenting reports. Cathy has been with CGS since 2020, previously working as a Compliance Audit Manager. Prior to CGS, she held numerous positions at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, including Department Administrator, Manager of Physician Billing Services, and Manager of the Office of Compliance & Corporate Integrity. She also served in the U.S. Air Force.
Cathy has a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and Associate of Science degree in Health Information. She earned a Capability Maturity Model Integration Associate certification and a Business Excellence certification from the Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management.

JOHN KIMBALL
Vice President of Operations
Bio
John Kimball is the Vice President of Medicare Operations. He sets the strategic direction for operations and implements enterprise-level innovations to improve performance, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Additionally, he identifies opportunities to support new government programs by leveraging CGS’ capabilities. John joined CGS in 1995 and has over 30 years of experience in government programs and Medicare processes. He previously served as the CGS Chief Information Officer, overseeing diverse information technology operations.
John has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Physics. He is an active supporter of United Way, March of Dimes, and Scouting America.

MELISSA KIRCHENBAUER

Melissa Kirchenbauer is the Assistant Vice President, Jurisdiction C Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contractor Program Manager. She leads a talented team that provides administrative services to healthcare members, providers, and suppliers. Melissa joined CGS in 1993 and has more than 30 years of operational experience in government programs. She brings extensive knowledge of Medicare fraud prevention methodologies and claims editing through her previous roles, including the CGS Director of Call Center Operations.
Melissa has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and holds a Lean Six Sigma certification. She was a 2023 Nashville March of Dimes “Champion of the Year” nominee and has served as both Chair and Co-Chair for United Way.

Bio
Melissa Lamb is the Assistant Vice President, Medicare Operations Jurisdiction 15 A/B Medicare Administrative Contractor Program Manager. Melissa leads a first-rate team that provides administrative services for healthcare members, providers, and suppliers. Melissa joined CGS in 1999 and has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, particularly in Medicare administration covering Parts A, B, and Home Health and Hospice. Her background also includes a focus on operations leadership and business excellence.
Melissa has a Bachelor of Science in Finance and is a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. She has been actively involved in national non-profit foundations for more than two decades, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Harmon Killebrew Foundation. She is currently on the Board of Directors for Nashville March of Dimes.

MIKE LOGAN
Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Bio
Mike Logan is Vice President and Chief Financial Officer responsible for CGS’ administrative accounting and financial operations functions. Mike joined CGS in 1999 and has over 30 years of experience in Medicare administrative operations. Prior to his current role, Mike served as the CGS Compliance Officer and worked as a division controller for a rehabilitation health care company.
Mike has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant. Mike has served as the CGS Chair for March of Dimes and continues to actively support March of Dimes charity events.

ROBERT STANSELL
Vice President, Systems & Support
Bio
Robert Stansell is the Vice President of Systems and Support. He oversees the management and maintenance of a technical infrastructure that is fully compliant with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services security requirements. Robert joined CGS in 2001 and has held a number of technology-focused roles, including the Test Lab Manager and Application Development Manager. Prior to his time at CGS, Robert served as a U.S. Army Paratrooper and Non-Commissioned Officer.
Robert has a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and a Master of Business Administration. He is a member of the Society for Information Management and a graduate of their Regional Leadership Forum. In addition, Robert holds several certifications including, MCSE, MCSA, MCDBA, A+, N+, and CDI.

Roc Via is the Assistant Vice President, Medicare Operations, Jurisdiction B Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contractor Program Manager. Roc leads a dynamic team that provides administrative services to healthcare members, providers, and suppliers. The team manages claims processing, education, and appeals to protect the Medicare Trust Fund. Roc began his career with CGS in 1999 and has more than 25 years of experience in operations, business development, and business excellence.
Roc has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Master of Business Administration. Roc was the 2022 March of Dimes Nashville “Champion of the Year” and continues to be an avid supporter of March of Dimes charity events.

TRACY TATUM
Director, Business Excellence
Bio
Tracy Tatum is the Director of Business Excellence and leads the project management, communications, quality improvement, and training and development teams. Additionally, she oversees the integration and alignment of CGS' business management system, strategic plan, and goals. Tracy joined CGS in 1998 and has an extensive background in organizational effectiveness, including instructional design, quality control, project oversight, and continuous improvement.
Tracy has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration. She is a dedicated supporter of the March of Dimes and FiftyForward charities.
